Mission “Kitchen Organized!”

I’ve always dreamed of having a pin-worthy kitchen. Opening up cabinets and drawers, to be met with things perfectly placed.  Moving into a new home and gutting the kitchen, basically, I knew this was my chance! In short, that’s when  mission “Kitchen Organized!” was born.

I could finally see all the spices!

SPICE DRAWER

One thing I knew I wanted in my new kitchen was a spice drawer. I loathed my spice cabinet at our old house! Having to take half the spices out to get what I needed in the back, having to climb up on the counter to get the seldom ones used, was irritating. to say the least. As a result, I found myself dreaming of a beautifully organized drawer right at my fingertips.

My dream spice drawer

I’d seen different organization solutions for the drawer itself. And I settled on these tilted steps to display the spices. The are adjustable in length, so will fit in any size drawer. I found these large glass spice jars with bamboo lids I loved. I then designed labels and printed them out on these sheets. I love how everything turned out! You can download the PDF below and print them out at home. They also fit on smaller size jars.

This is what I used to make it all happen.

Aside from having an amazing spice drawer! There were a few more things I needed to succeed in my mission “kitchen organized”.

UTENSIL AND DISHTOWEL DRAWER

First off, my utensil drawer at our old house was just out of control! Above all, it drove my mother-in-law absolutely crazy to cook there. We had standard-size drawers, although deep, they were nonetheless unfunctional. And I had so much stuff, you know, just incase.

So now with our 24 inch drawers, deciding to throw everything out and start anew, was the best thing to do. I found this utensil set in a  khaki color. Since the drawers are so much larger, I needed a division within. These bamboo separators were perfect. Paired with a clear acrylic bin to hold my dishtowels. Ta da! There is was at last,  a beautifully organized and functional drawer.

TUPPERWARE DRAWER

Secondly, another huge problem we had before moving for out Tupperware cupboard. It was awful! We also kept the kids’ Ikea dishes there so they were within reach for them. But evidently, as soon as their little uncoordinated hands would grab something, everything came tumbling out.

We needed a better system. Although I knew a drawer would be more practical. I didn’t want everything shifting around looking messy. Once again, the separators came into play to save the day. Additionally, I now had 2 separate areas to keep it all tidy.

AN ORGANIZED PANTRY

It was all fine and dandy that my kitchen gadgets were all nicely placed. But, now I needed ingredients to cook with.

At our old home, we had a tall, deep, and narrow pantry. And like the Tupperware cupboard, whenever I’d try and take something out, things would just fal lout. No matter what, it looked like a hot mess! This pantry would infuriate me, making dinner in a haste every night

For that reason, we thought it best to use the space under the coffee bar. The cabinets are upper depth, so things wouldn’t get lost behind.

We had 3 cabinets to work with. Instead of having all my kitchen staples mixed up. I settled on dedicating one to baking goods, one to pasta and other dry foods, and lastly one for my mixer.

Using these canisters was perfect. The fact that they were different heights made it easier to see everything in the pantry. And the acrylic organizers fit perfectly! They held all the small things, that would inevitably fall out.

All my baking staples at my finger tips!

Meal are so much easier to make when you can see what ingredients you have.

My husband had the idea of putting the Kitchen Aid mixer in one of the cabinets. I wasn’t sure, but in the end, it worked out perfectly because the cereal canisters were too tall. LOL!

Placing the mixer there was a great idea.

And there you have it, we’d succeeded my mission “kitchen organized”. Let’s face it, with 4 kids at home 24/7, I spend most of my time in the kitchen. So in turn, having a functional kitchen makes it that much more enjoyable to cook in. I absolutely love my kitchen!

If anything, I hope this post inspires you to look at your own space and find a way to make it more functional and organized. We sometimes don’t realize that living in clutter is quite draining. So get in there, and declutter!
