Sofia’s Cake Smash

There’s nothing more bittersweet than the last firsts. The first time your last baby smiles, rolls over, sits, stands, walks, talks…and that last first birthday. This time around, I feel like the days have just slipped through my hands. I’ve tried extra hard to savor and slow down these newborn/baby sweet moments, but having 3 other little monkeys have proven it impossible. There just aren’t enough minutes in a day. Having a hard time grasping the fact that a year has passed since we welcomed our last addition, I found myself in the middle of a move and renovations trying to plan something special for our baby girl. If nothing else, I knew I wanted to do a cake smash.

Cake Smash!

The Cake

I kind of feel bad that I’ve only done one for my girls. Looking back, I have no idea why I never did for my boys. But this was my last hoorah! Go big or go home. Let me tell you, I’ve come a long way in 10 years. My first born’s cake smash wasn’t so great. I mean, I did my best, but it just doesn’t compare to this.

Surprisingly, I threw this together quite quickly, aside from the macaroons and meringues I’d made a few days before. I made extra cake batter when I baked her cake, to have enough to make her an extra small one. And didn’t complicate it with icing or fondant, just some whip cream. I used the cake topper I had purchased here. Followed by extra flower I had from some decor I’d made.

Simple cake.

The Set Up

I used my mantel as a backdrop and hung a soft, fluffy blanket. Added another to the floor, and some fairy lights. With the help of some gold hoops, artificial flowers and stems from Michael’s, and my trusty glue gun. I was able to make beautiful backdrop decor. If you head over to Instagram, you can find the reel of how I put them together.

Picture perfect set up!

She didn’t have much interest in smashing the cake LOL! She sat there and was the perfect little model, just analyzing her cake. It’s as if she thought it was too pretty to eat. Eventually she did eat a little, but only after coaxing her to.

My perfect little princess.
Let me try this!

I couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out. So glad I took the time to do this with her. Such cute pictures.
